The idea of having Jiminy lecture Pinocchio from the petals of a jack-in-the-pulpit is one of the cleverest touches in a film overflowing with clever touches. Jiminy’s frustration and Pinoke’s wide-eyed sincerity are on full display in this premium set-up. Jiminy is 2" and Pinocchio is an astonishing 6-3/4". They are hand inked, trimmed and applied to a new cel. The set-up is 10-3/4 x 8 3/4", complete with its Courvoisier watercolor background. hand-lettered mat and label. One wonders how the jack-in-the-pulpit, an indigenous American flower, made its way to the Italian Alps for its appearance in the film. The pulpit metaphor must have been too good to pass up. Disney, 1940.
