When the curtain went up at Hollywood's glittering Carthay Circle Theater on December 21, 1937, the audience thrilled to something entirely new. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was unlike anything anyone had ever seen before. With its groundbreaking animation, unforgettable characters, and spellbinding storytelling, it heralded an unprecedented era of animation that lit up the world with its brilliance and charm. As early as 1934, Walt had been looking ahead to what would become his first full-length animated feature. Although the enormous leap from the production of short cartoons was still in his mind alone, without their realizing it he was steadily pressing his animators to hone the skills they would need to call on for the all-important venture. Take a moment to look at the subtlety of the animation as the Dwarfs react uneasily, hiding the evidence and beginning to shuffle backwards, when Snow White asks to see their hands. Bashful, Doc, Sneezy, Happy, Dopey, and Sleepy are caught like kids with the cookie jar in this beautiful 10 x 6" hand-inked image. The set-up is 10-3/4 x 7-1/2", complete with Courvoisier airbrush-enhanced wood veneer background, hand-lettered mat, and label. Disney, 1937.
