#019 ANIMATION DRAWING of MICKEY MOUSE
$600-1,000
Mickey hands the broom that has gotten him into so much trouble to the implacable Sorcerer and picks up the buckets he should have stuck to in the first place. This is a beautiful drawing, expressive of the entire scene. Mickey is 4-7/8", rendered in black, red, and green pencil on a 12-field sheet, with inker notations and production stamp. Walt originally conceived of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" as a short, stand-alone vehicle for his star, and he charged his artists into putting their finest work into making it a showcase. Only later did the larger concept of Fantasia evolve around it. With its flawless animation, brilliant special effects, and perfectly paced story, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" still stands as the uncontested centerpiece of the film and the apex of Mickey's career. Disney, 1940.
