"Wake up, we have company." The newborn fawn raises his head in response to his mother’s voice and looks around at the crowd that has gathered in the thicket at news of his birth. Marc Davis, whose influence on the development and appearance of the characters in Bambi was tremendous, drew these tender sketches. Beyond their sheer beauty, what is astonishing is the care with which he explored every nuance of the moment. Each of the three drawings of the infant Bambi is perfectly key to his mother.
