In order to be ready for his feature role in Fantasia, Mickey was redesigned by Fred Moore, whose ability to create warm, appealing characters has never been surpassed, and given the appearance that has been his trademark ever since. The new Mickey made his debut in “The Pointer," and the Studio went all out making the short a showcase for their star. You can see it in every line. The bear, dripping with anticipation, is 5-7/8” and Mickey and Pluto, only anticipating getting away, are 9-7/8 x 3-7/8”. They are rendered in black and colored pencil on 12-field sheets, with Color Model, production, and “Model Drawing return to Joan Orbison” stamps. The penciled word “Standard” refers to the normal daylight colors for each character. Disney, 1939.
